Tying different timeslots together

I wish I knew what to say when people ask me what I do.

Sometimes I'll say I write video games, other times I'll say that I write books, or that I help people learn Welsh. Of course I do all three. Even that's getting too complicated, as I'm starting to write books about different things and in different languages.

I thought it'd be nice to have some way of tying everything together. Linking stuff if you like.

colin.cymru is the result. It's not so much a website (it isn't a website btw) but a series of links, which I can redirect over time.

So colin.cymru itself will currently take you to my personal website, while colin.cymru/books will magically whisk you away to my Amazon UK Author page, whereas colin.cymru/us will take you to my US Amazon Author page. That way I can leave links in various places and update their destinations if needed.

Brilliant, eh? For those of you who have an interest in such modern alchemy it's all made possible by a free and open source url shortener at yourls.org

Getting Quiet

Getting Quiet has had a refresh. No new recordings, but a dusting down and a tidy up. A new cover to be exact, which I'm very pleased with.

Take out the art insert supplied with the new CD version, put it somewhere to remind you to quiet your mind and follow the course.

www.gettingquiet.com is where it's at, and where you can listen to a sample too.

Or you could just buy a print or card of the artwork here.

It's a clear path to a quiet mind, you know.

free will?

Our decisions can be seen in our brains up to 10 seconds before we are consciously aware of them.

So says the work of John-Dylan Haynes, reported in the Online Wall Street Journal here.

Thought Pollution

If the doors of perception were cleansed everything would appear to man as it is, infinite.

simple living

Should be one of our aims. Technology unfortunately often makes life more complicated, but not always.

My top 4 simplifying gadgets today would be:

1 My Sonos music system. Combined with

2 Spotify. My music is now either stored on an unobtrusive network drive, or piped instantly from the internet. CDs get relegated to the attic.

3. IMAP mail. I think that's right. Now I can read and reply to mail on different devices without forgetting which ones I've answered.

4. Getting Quiet. A simple system to quiet the mind. A quieter mind sees things more clearly. www.gettingquiet.com

Now kick back.

Neither a religion or a belief system, but a simple tool to quiet the mind.

Strange times call for a clarification. Getting Quiet is not concerened with belief systems, gurus or religion. While I hold my own personal views the Getting Quiet audio course is merely a tool to help quiet the mind.

As stated on the course, I believe that the mind is a tremendous asset, capable of genius. I do believe though, that there are times when quieting the mind will give a more direct, and so richer, experience of the world. There may be times when you want to experience the world more directly, there may be times when you do not.

So, to clarify: Getting Quiet aims to help you quiet the mind, when and should you so choose, to gain a more direct experience of the world. It's up to you when, if and how to use it. Peace, love and a happy 2010.

new book for October release

we live in the spaces between the starsWe Live in the Spaces Between the Stars. A book of silences and spaces, to help facilitate a quiet mind and a fourth state of consciousness.

This is the first product from Getting Quiet, and surprisingly comes before the actual release of the Getting Quiet course.

More news here as it happens.

the woman made unconscious by thought

Here’s a story I heard from a friend. One of his co-workers was babysitting her grandchild. She dozed off for a few minutes while looking after the baby and when she woke up the child was nowhere to be seen. She was understandably worried. Luckily she found the child in the house by the front door.

Her son (or daughter, I’m not sure) came by to collect the baby and everyone was safe and well.

However, at this point the grandmother began to think ‘what if?’.
She looked at her front door, it was unlocked.
She looked at her garden gate. It was open, and led onto a busy road.
She realized that the child could have crawled out of the house onto the road. She began to panic.

The child was safe, none of the above had happened, but the lady kept asking herself ‘what if?’.
She began hyperventilating, and passed out. She awoke and managed to see her doctor. She is fine and well.

The point, of course, is that the thoughts of ‘what if’ became too much for the grandmother. And yet these thoughts are not even as real as an image projected onto smoke.

Imagine the everyday harm we do ourselves through worry and anxiety over similar but smaller thoughts. Thoughts which are not even as substantial as light on smoke.

We need to take control of our thoughts. We need to get quiet.
